BRET MICHAELS WORKS OUT SOME KINKS Talk about ironic. Charlie Sheen, of all people turned out to be the arbiter of good taste recently when he helped talk rocker Bret Michaels out of including in his upcoming movie, 'A Letter From Death Row," some footage of Michaels in a steamy solo turn, if you catch our drift. Ann Gillis, producer of the psychological thriller, was busy working on the film when Michaels -- the lead singer of Poison who also wrote the movie, stars in it and scored it -- offered up an X-rated piece of video depicting him in a sauna. The video was shot by Michaels' girlfriend, Canadian model Kristi Gibson. Gillis, whose other new movie "Films that Suck," about the independent film world, is just wrapping production, was so unnerved by the singer's desire to include the footage in "Death Row" that she summoned Sheen -- who has a cameo in the movie -- to help her talk the singer into his senses. Sheen did just that and Michaels backed down.
Expecting The conversation turned to pregnancies when former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn, stopped by the Manhattan office of a former aide, Leon H. Charney, yesterday. His wife, Tzili, is expecting for the first time. "He Says, 'Amy's expecting also.'" Mr. Charney said later, 'I asked when her date was. 'the end of July.' the same as mine I said, 'They'll both be Leos.'" Amy Carter lives in Atlanta, where she is on the board of the Carter Center, Mr. Carter's human rights and diplomacy center. The Carter Center did not return a call seeking comment last night. Her husband, James Wentzel, is a computer consultant. Mr. Charney, a lawyer and cable-television host in Manhattan, was present for the negotiations that led to the Camp David peace accords. "I told him that because he lost the election, I was able to purchase this building." Mr. Charney said, referring to the midtown skyscraper where he works. "Had he won, I'd still be working on the peace process."

Those two hot supermodels Esther Cañadas and Mark Vanderloo met just eight months ago on a fashion shoot for Donna Karan New York. They fell in love and signed a multimillion-dollar, two-year exclusive contract -- together! (They now affectionately refer to Donna as their "cupid godmother.") In Milan, Mark proved that chivalry isn't dead. He went on bended knee to ask for Esther's hand in marriage. When the show moved to Paris, Mark presented an exquisite engagement ring. This was right after the aborted Giorgio Armani fashion debacle created by the French gendarmes, and it made Mark and Esther about the only happy people in the darkened City of Light. They are waiting to set a date.

Best ex he ever had?
THE ex-wives of Donald Trump don't have much in common, apart from a marked reluctance to give up using his name, Ivana and Marla are fierce competitors and don't mind scoring points off one another.
So Ivana should be gleeful when she sees the upcoming Soap Opera Weekly. It reports that the role Marla has just won on "Sunset Beach" was originally written for Ivana, who bowed out under business pressure.
"She'll always b e second fiddle to me," is the way Ivana puts it.
